Bwindi's Waterfalls part 1

Have you ever hiked through the rain forest near the Congo border with a couple of dudes carrying ak 47's? It's kind of an indescribable feeling. Is some crazy animal going to pop out at you and try to kill you? Is some Kongolese dude going to pop out at you and try to kill you? Are the dudes packing heat going to take you out into the middle of the forest and try to kill you? All common questions that replayed through my head throughout the day.

We asked James, one of the ak 47 guys why they had to hike with us and bring out the big guns and he said "in case there are battles in the Congo" so.. whatever that means.

We hiked around Bwindi quite a bit, and then finally paid the entrance fee and did a formal hike. Did not disappoint. The trail was gleaming with the most butterflies mine eyes have ever beheld. We walked through a series of 3 different waterfall sections and were able to climb up and swim at the last one. The guide told us to drink the water. We forgot waterbottles and so we obliged.. but all I can think about is what weird diseases i may have contracted. It was delicious water though. Worth it. Maybe.

He stood like this and then asked Danny to take a picture of him. haha

Devil ants everywhere. On one of our other hikes the guide told us not to stand near the ants because they will try to find our "private parts"

Its not called Bwindi Impenetrable forest for no reason..

The first of 3 sets of waterfalls as a teaser for next time:
