Some of the funnest people to get to know in other countries are the kids. There are no cultural biases and neither of us are afraid to talk to each other.
These girls were so fun. They taught me some of their ugandan dances they were into, I taught them the macarena.
We took sack lunches to their village since it was a couple hours away from where we were staying. We gave one to our driver. He threw his trash outside on the ground-- foil, and empty juice box, and saran wrap. It was truly animalistic the way they attacked his trash. They punched each other and pushed each other out of the way. In the end they took turns licking it. Like how you would imagine someone would react if they were starving to death. We ended up leaving some of our lunches with them.
Some of these kids, unlike their parents, will have the opportunity to travel to other villages to go to school. Some of them won't. The girls pictured in the purple dresses all went to school (thats their school uniform). All of the Batwa people we talked to expressed how extremely grateful and how happy it makes them that their children can go to school. I don't think I ever appreciated education (especially elementary) as much as I should have until I met these people.
